The Polestar 2 is now available to order in Europe, where the dual-motor EV will be priced starting from SEK 659,000 (RM279,893) in Sweden and 58,800 euros (RM270,068) in Germany. Production of the Polestar 2 will commence early next year at a Polestar manufacturing facility in Luqiao, China and the first vehicle deliveries are slated for June, the automaker said.
For markets outside of Europe, guide pricing remains at US$63,000 (RM263,522) for the United States and RMB460,000 (RM269,145) for China, and finalised pricing will be announced at a later date, says Polestar.
An electric motor on each axle provides the Polestar 2 with a total system output of 408 hp and 660 Nm of torque, fed by a 78kWh battery which offers a range of up to 500 km on the WLTP test cycle. This powers the Polestar 2 from 0-100 km/h in less than five seconds. At launch, the Polestar 2 can be specified with a Performance Pack which adds Öhlins dampers, Brembo brakes and 20-inch forged alloy wheels.
As part of the performance sub-brand under Volvo, the Polestar 2 is built upon the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) which underpins the Volvo XC40 as well as the Lynk & Co 01, 02 and 03. The Polestar 2’s 27-module battery pack is located in the floor which aids chassis rigidity, while reducing NVH.
Inside, the Polestar 2 boasts of a 11-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen, working from an Android-based operating system. The EV will also feature a vegan interior as standard, with fabric and Weave Tech upholstery optional, the latter said to be water and dirt resistant; Nappa leather is also available as an option.
“We have seen very keen interest in Polestar 2 since revealing it earlier this year. By confirming European pricing, we show the outstanding value this high specification vehicle represents,” said Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath. Interested customers may make their reservations on the Polestar website with a fully refundable deposit, the company said.
All Polestar vehicles will be put on sale online directly from Polestar6, while Polestar Spaces will serve as physical locations where customers can be assisted with further information and test drives. These centres will be at inner-city locations, says Polestar, the first outlets set to open before the end of this year, with a total of 50 locations set to open globally by end of 2020.
